HAMMERHEADS emerged champions of the inaugural Women’s Touch Rugby Tournament 2018 after defeating Onsha 1-0 in a thrilling final at the Jerudong International School (JIS) V Block Field Sunday. Hamizah binti Md Taha scored the decisive try to separate the two teams.
JIS Red Devils settled for third place while Wahine Toa took fourth place. International School Brunei (ISB) finished fifth with JIS Tigers and JIS Blue’s Clues in sixth and seventh place, respectively. PB Jaguars ended in eighth place.
Hammerheads topped Group ‘A’ to advance to the knock-out stages while Onsha qualified after securing second place in Group ‘B’.
In the last four, Hammerheads edged Red Devils 2-1 while Onsha exacted redemption on group winners Wahine Toa with a highly-entertaining 3-2 win to clinch a place in the final.
Hammerheads have been in scintillating form highlighted by their emphatic wins against PB Jaguars and JIS Teachers while Onsha bounced back from opening fixture with a series of victories.
But it was Hamizah who stepped up with the decisive try to help her Hammerheads team not only maintain an undefeated record but also to a first- ever Women’s Touch title.
Organised by JIS, a total of eight teams split into two groups competed in the event.
