BRUNEI Darussalam national futsal team began their campaign in the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Futsal Championship with a 9-0 defeat to Vietnam at the Yogyakarta State University in Yogyakarta yesterday. The national team are currently placed in third place due to an inferior goal difference to bottom-placed Timor Leste, who were hammered 14-0 by record winners Thailand.
It was a marked improvement in terms of the score-line compared to their 18-0 loss to the same opponents during the previous edition.
Nguyen Thang fired from close range while his teammate Nguyen Thanh Tin unleashed a low and firm strike to put the Vietnamese in the ascendancy.
Danh Phát played a short and quick corner to the unmarked Nguyen Manh Dung who buried his shot into the top corner.
Thanh Tin released Thang with a perfectly weighed pass who slotted the ball home.
Doan Van Dinh skipped his marker before sending a low cross to the path of Phat who simply guided the ball into the empty net with the goalkeeper committed.
Duong Ngoc Linh played the role of assist as Thang returned to the score-sheet with another goal.
Chu Van Tien added the icing of the cake with the final goal of the game after steering home a fine assist.
Brunei next play Thailand today before concluding their campaign against Timor Leste tomorrow.
