SOUTH Sulawesi stole the show with gold medals in both the 1,500m men’s and women’s events in the 10th BIMPNT-EAGA Friendship Games at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium last night.
Syamsuddin struck gold after clocking a time of 4:02.27 in the men’s event while Fitri won the women’s event with a time of 4:58.09.
Jhondee Vinson of Palawan claimed silver in the men’s event with a time of 4:08.11 and his teammate Gemphil Z Gabriel took bronze with a time of 4:11.11.
Sabah athlete Marlin Hing William sealed silver with a time of 5:12.08 while Fitri’s teammate Dwi Dara settled for bronze with a time of 5:16.45.
Meanwhile, Palawan dominated the 400m events after winning gold in both the men’s and women’s events.
Jhon Llyod H Cabalo claimed gold after posting a time of 50.14s followed by Isaiah Ng Jian Lung of Sabah who won silver with a time of 50.97s while South Sulawesi’s Nurhidayat Yusuf took bronze with a time of 51.29s. Brunei Darussalam ‘A’ managed fifth with a time of 53.10.
In the women’s event, Jessel D Lumapas won gold with a sub-60 second mark of 57.47s. Nurfadillah Mulyadi of South Sulawesi settled for silver with a time of 1:00.71 while Sabah’s Puteri Nur Safirah secured bronze with a time of 1:02.22.
