BRUNEI Darussalam’s internationally-certified match officials Abdul Hakim bin Mohd Haidi and Ali Faisal bin Rosli left for Phnom Penh, Cambodia for officiating duties during the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Under-22 Championship from February 17 to 27.
Present to bid the duo farewell at the Brunei International Airport on Thursday were member of National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) referees executive committee Pengiran Haji Aliudin bin Pengiran Haji Tajudin, Deputy President of Brunei Darussalam National Referees Haji Habib bin Haji Abdullah and Head of NFABD Referee Department Haji Hamidon bin Haji Mohd Zin.
Abdul Hakim is an accredited FIFA referee while his compatriot Ali Faisal is a recognised FIFA assistant referee. Abdul Hakim was included as one of the 32 referees in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) region in the FIFA list last year.
Abdul Hakim’s first major assignment after being accepted as a FIFA referee was the AFF Under-16 Youth Championship last July.
He took charge of the opening Group ‘A’ fixture between Cambodia and Vietnam where he awarded a penalty for Vietnam. He also officiated two group matches during the tournament.
One of the local referee’s career highlights was his appointment as a fourth official in a group stage match between Laos and Myanmar in the AFF Championship last November.
Ali Faisal was appointed as a match official during the AFF Under-19 Championship in Surabaya, Indonesia last July.
