THE Brunei Amateur Swimming Association (BASA) will organise the 27th Brunei Age Group Long Course (LC) Swimming Championships at the Swimming Pool of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex from today until April 21.
The competition looks set to be the biggest ever meet ever held with the participation of 350 swimmers including 135 female and 215 male swimmers, as well as 1,641 individual events and 35 relay submissions.
Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim ibni Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah will compete in the 100m breaststroke, 50m butterfly, backstroke and freestyle events.
Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah binti Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah will compete in two events namely the 50m freestyle and backstroke.
There will be 11 local teams and six overseas teams including one from the Philippines, two from Indonesia and three from east Malaysia.
The meet is a qualifying platform for BASA to select swimmers for the upcoming 43rd Southeast Asia Age Group (SEAAG) Championships which will be hosted in Cambodia, and 11th ASEAN School Games (ASG) in Indonesia.
In addition, the meet also serves as a platform for the senior swimmers to register their times to qualify for the 30th SEA Games in Manila, Philippines.
New national and age groups are expected to be broken. Members of the public are encouraged to the event from 9am to 4pm.
