DPMM FC Head Coach Adrian Pennock heaped praise on his table-topping charges’ 3-1 away win against Geylang International FC in the AIA Singapore Premier League at the Our Tampines Hub in Singapore last Saturday. The Gegar Gegar men extended their lead at the top of the table to nine points in what appeared to be their tenth game without defeat on the road.
“It is a very good three points. It is a difficult place to come. Obviously, the first half was very good and the second half was a little bit sloppy,” said Pennock in a post-match interview.
“When it’s 3-0, it’s difficult to get going but all credit to them they carried on.” The head coach also called the incident late into the match “a little bit silly” after forward Abdul Azizi Ali Rahman was shown the red card.
He added, “There is no need for a red card like that but we deal with that internally. But, a very good three points away from home.”
Meanwhile, his opposite number Geylang International FC Head Coach Mohd Noor Ali admitted that the three goals in the first half effectively killed off any chances of his team hauling back into the match.
He said, “Basically we know that they are just going to pump the long balls and with the number 10 and 20, that’s how they got the three goals through a counterattack.”
Mohd Noor Ali highlighted the difficulties of coping with the Gegar Gegar men’s approach to the game as they slipped to a fourth consecutive defeat in the league. “It is very hard to handle this
team with the long balls that they were pumping into the penalty box. But I think the three goals in the first half killed us.”
