Local bowler shines at Sarawak meet (2019)

NATASYA Rafie amassed four trophies in four different divisions in the span of two days at the Sarawak Borneo Tenpin Bowling Championship 2019 in Kuching, Sarawak last weekend.

Fresh off her momentum of winning gold medals at the 40th Malaysian International Open and the 51st Singapore International Open, the 18-year-old national bowler brought home a gold medal in the Ladies’ Division and a silver medal in the Graded Division to go along with her bronze medals in the Youth Girls’ Open and Open divisions in the mixed pool on the final day.

Other Brunei bowlers also bagged spots in the top 10 of their individual categories and received prizes.

Muhd Al-Amin took fifth place and Mohammad Faiz Dzuhairy finished in ninth place in the Graded Division, while Fatimah Jaya grabbed ninth place in the Ladies’ Category. Muhd Wafiuddin took 18th position in the Open Category to make the top-tier cut of the mixed pool.

President of the Brunei Ten-Pin Bowling Congress Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Abdul Badee’ bin Pengiran Kerma Raja Pengiran Haji Kamarulzaman greeted the team upon their return home at the Arrival Hall of the Brunei International Airport.

The Brunei team travelled to Kuching, Sarawak last Thursday, and arrived in Brunei last Sunday after a packed schedule of travelling to international tournaments which included Peninsular Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Kuching, Sarawak.

After a successful tour around the region, Natasya and the national ten-pin bowling team will continue to strive towards improving their abilities before their potential SEA Games berth in the Philippines at the end of the year.
