Brunei Darussalam’s junior wushu athletes received a morale boost when His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, President of Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC) paid a surprise visit at their training venue on Friday.
Accompanying His Royal Highness were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak ‘Aliiyah Amalul Bulqiah and Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin.
The national wushu athletes will compete in the 10th Asian Junior Wushu Championships to take place at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex next week.
His Royal Highness, who is also the Patron of the organising committee for the 10th Asian Junior Wushu Championships conveyed encouraging words and advices to the athletes.
His Royal Highness advised the athletes to stay focussed and concentrate during the competition. As the host country of the championship, His Royal Highness hoped they will take the opportunity to do the country proud.
National wushu head coach Li Hui said, “His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah’s visit has helped boost the morale of the athletes. We are really grateful to His Royal Highness’ visit and support for wushu.”
During the visit, the wushu athletes also performed a demonstration of their moves for His Royal Highness.
The junior athletes will represent the country in several disciplines including the duel event, changquan, gunshu, nanquan, daoshu, taijiquan, 42 forms taijiquan, taijijian, nangun, jianshu and group event.
Brunei Darussalam is represented by Aaron Jinyi Phung, Abel Lim Wee Yuen, Majdurano Joel bin Majallah Sain, Mohammad Safiee Shayferan bin Roslan, Walid Lachkar, Lim Wei Jun, Hosea Wong Zheng Yu, Basma Lachkar, Dexuan Ling, Nur Bastrishia Ripin, Lim Yee Sean, Chiam Ziqi and Ziyan Li.
