Indonesian team ready to defend Brunei Darussalam Regatta title (2019)

Pasukan Olahraga Dayung Seluruh Indonesia Kalimantan Barat from Indonesia, the defending champion of last year’s Brunei Darussalam Regatta held in conjunction with the 72nd birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, will be back this year to defend their title.

This was confirmed by Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Dr Sumatjiko during the handing over of the Brunei Regatta Challenge trophy at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) on Wednesday.

The Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam is representing the champions of last year’s Brunei Regatta for the 30-Rower Traditional Boat Race Marathon, Pasukan Olahraga Dayung Seluruh Indonesia Kalimantan Barat.

The ambassador handed over the challenge trophy to Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong who is also the joint advisor of the executive organising committee for the upcoming Brunei Darussalam Regatta 2019 in conjunction with the 73rd birthday celebration of His Majesty. This year, the Pasukan Olahraga Dayung Seluruh Indonesia Kalimantan Barat will comprise 40 rowers and 10 officials. They will compete in five categories.

Permanent secretaries at the MoHA as joint chairpersons, deputy permanent secretaries at the MoHA and the deputy permanent secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) as the joint deputy chairman of the executive organising committee for the Brunei Darussalam Regatta 2019 were also present at the ceremony.

The Brunei Darussalam Regatta 2019 is jointly organised by the MoHA, the MPRT and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS).

It will take place on Sunday at the waterways of Brunei River in front of the Dermaga Diraja, Bandar Seri Begawan.
