Chain Block dominate National Tug-of-War Championship (2019)

CHAIN Block asserted their dominance in the National Tug-of-War Championship held in conjunction with the 73rd birthday of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam after making a clean sweep in all categories at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien in the capital on Sunday.

The grand finale of the competition witnessed Chain Block emerge champion in Category ‘B’ (total weight of 680kg) after they overpowered MB Athlete ‘B’ shortly after they emerged victorious in Category ‘A’ final (70kg individual) where they defeated KB Bull Brothers.

The Category ‘C’ final (Under-19 and total weight of 500kg) between Chain Block and KB Bull Panaga ‘A’ was also won by Chain Block, which was witnessed by His Majesty during the Royal Birthday Cycling Recreation 2019 event in the morning session on Sunday.

Chain Block also successfully retained their title in Category ‘B’, the main event of the competition, continuing their reign at the top at least in the last four years.

“I feel very happy in winning the championship because we have been training for a long time. We have trained three to four months before we went to Kuala Lumpur for a tournament there,” said Chain Block coach Husin bin Haji Yahya in an interview with the Bulletin after the prize presentation ceremony.

“We scooped the championship title in all categories. Last year, we also won the event. We have won the event four to five years,” he added.

The coach revealed their plans of joining a regional competition in the Limbang Open International Tug-of-War Tournament in November.

The total weight in Category ‘B’ is in compliance with international standard and is applied in international competitions.

Meanwhile, HSN Fit Tug-of-War Team claimed third place in Category ‘A’, while KB Bull Brothers snatched third place in Category ‘B’ and KB Bull Panaga ‘B’ placed third in Category ‘C’.

Held over two days, the match format of the competition was contested in a round robin in Category ‘A’ whereas Category ‘B’ and ‘C’ featured a knock-out process. A total of 21 teams took part in the competition.

Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong presented the prizes.
