Brunei Darussalam veteran athletics team finished in fourth place overall in the 9th Sabah Masters Open Athletics Championship (Samoc) 2019 after collecting a haul of 21 gold, 13 silver and nine bronze medals at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu last weekend.
Penampang finished at the top of the medal tally with 42 gold, 32 silver and 24 bronze medals followed by Papar as runners-up with 32 gold, 35 silver and 22 bronze medals and Sabah Medical Recreation Club (SMRC) in third place with 29 gold, 35 silver and 24 bronze medals.
Brunei’s participation in the tournament served as a preparation for the Asian Masters in Kuching from December 1-7.
Twenty-six track and field veteran athletes represented Brunei Darussalam at the recently concluded Sabah meet.
Organised by the Sabah Masters Athletics Association (Samas) with cooperation from the Sabah Ministry of Youth and Sports, Sabah Sports Council and Sabah Sports Board, the tournament provided an international field with participants from the United Kingdom, India, Hong Kong, Singapore and Indonesia.
