McDonald’s Brunei, the main partner for the inaugural Brunei Run 2020 Bandar Seri Begawan will support 15 athletes competing the race on January 5, 2020 at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien in the capital.
An official ceremony to sponsor the athletes was held on Tuesday attended by Brunei Darussalam Athletics Federation President Major (Rtd) Talib bin Haji Md Tahir and athletes, among others.
The 15 athletes were selected based on their achievement in the national event and inter-school competitions and enthusiasm in participating in running events representing the Brunei-Muara, Tutong, Belait and Temburong districts.
The athletes are Norezam bin Md Isham, Abdul Malik bin Awang Hidup, Md Wafiuddin bin Abdullah, Mohammad Khairul Danial bin Zainal Abidin, Awangku Muhd Hazim Harith bin Pengiran Fadzil, Mohammad Efwan bin Haji Asmalee, Md Khairul Anuar bin Ramli, Muhd ‘Ammar Safwan bin Haji Zaidin, Hyde Natrisha Hujium, Nurul Amirah binti Karim, Farah Haziqah binti Mohd Khairul Arrifin, Nurul Jannah binti Anuar, Jenny Feng Ling Tan, Younes Ammouta and Zulfadli Bakar.
The event started with the recitation of Doa Selamat led by Mosque Affairs Officer Jeffery bin Metassim, followed by welcoming remarks from McDonald’s Marketing Manager Nor Hafilah binti Mohd Salleh, and a presentation of a letter of sponsorship to the athletes by McDonald’s Marketing Manager.
Nor Hafilah said in line with McDonald’s core of Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement to give back to the community, McDonald’s was pleased to support the athletes’ participating in the Brunei Run 2020.
“By doing so, we continue to seek ways to make meaningful impacts on our communities we live in and shared-value relationship with the local organisation,” said Nor Hafilah.
The Brunei Run 2020 supports the United Nations International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. Supported by the Brunei Darussalam Athletics Federation, the measured course will begin at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien and loop around the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Bridge providing a unique opportunity for participants to run on the iconic 622-metre-long bridge, run through Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas and experience the beat of the city.
The route features breath-taking views of the city’s well-known Kampong Ayer on the Brunei River, Royal Regalia Museum and Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque.
As one of the first major events in 2020, the Brunei Run 2020 will feature four categories for the 10km competitive race (Open’s Men & Women categories) as well as the 5km competitive race (Open’s Men & Women categories) to bring together different segments in all fitness levels in the community.
The Top Three Men and Women finisher’s for 10km and 5km race categories will receive prize money, finisher’s medal and pair of Brooks Running footwear.
Race Entry Pack Collection (REPC) day will be held on January 3 and 4, 2020.
