Peak Performance Swim Club (PPSC) emerged as overall champions of the Brunei 7-9 Years Old Swimming Course Swimming Championship after accumulating a haul of 15 gold, 10 silver and 11 bronze medals at the International School Brunei (ISB) Swimming Pool recently.

A total of 166 young swimmers from 12 swim clubs including clubs from Malaysia participated in the bi-annual junior short course competition.

PPSC’s eight-year old swimmer Eva M’Cartney and nine-year-old Kayleigh Ang swooped up a collection of golds in their individual and respective relay team events. Eight-year-old Danniel Chan contributed to PPSC’s medal rush after striking gold in the 25-metre freestyle, 25-metre backstroke and 100-metre freestyle relay events.

The bi-annual event organised by the Brunei Amateur Swimming Association (BASA) and supported by the Department of Youth and Sports of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) provided an important platform for young and aspiring swimmers to benchmark their progress against other local and regional swimmers.

Besides PPSC, the competition saw participation from a diverse group of swimmers from various regional clubs including Hammerhead Swimming Club, Dolphin Swimming Club, Jerudong Swimming Club, Life Skill Swim School, Skim Latihan Renang Tutong, KB Piranha Swimming Team, Panaga Stingrays, PSI Swimming Club, Kelab Rekreasi Petroliam, Gymkhana Club Miri and Sailfish Aquatic Athletics.

From the PPSC team, most swim a couple of times a week but there were also a number who trains more regularly with the senior squad.

PPSC team veteran coach Victor Tan said, “The young swimmers have really trained hard for this competition. But win or lose, I am still very proud of every single one of them and strongly believe this will inspire them to try harder and do better next time.”
