Seven bowling athletes with different disabilities left Brunei Darussalam on Thursday to compete in the World Para Bowling Tour 2019 at Sta Lucia Bowling Center, Sta Lucia East Mall in Manila, the Philippines from November 14-21.
The delegation is led by Mohammad Aidil bin Jahali and coach Pengiran Saiful Rizal bin Pengiran Haji Yunus as well as an officer Rukiah binti Nawang.
The athletes are Muhammad Jamary bin Danggat, Kamarul Arrifin bin Haji Abdul Ghaffar, Khairul Anuar bin Haji Abdul Ghaffar, Saidin bin Haji Damit, Salehuddin bin Md Seruji, Matius bin Akim and Nor Hanizawanney binti Yaakub.
“We are targetting medals in the competition. Recently the same team also competed in Kuala Lumpur and managed to collect five gold, five silver and three bronze medals. We are hopeful that we can obtain medals in this tournament as well,” Mohammad Aidil told the Bulletin.
On the team, he said, “They have been together since 2014 and have been training together. This tournament will serve as the final warm-up before the ASEAN Para Games.”
Coach Pengiran Saiful Rizal added, “From October we have been carrying out intensive training and will continue to do so after the tournament.”
The seven-day tournament will include four events – Single, Double, Trio and All Event for TPB1, TPB2, TPB3, TPB4, TPB8, TPB9 and TPB10 categories.
The para athletes will face competitors from Czech Republic, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
