The Brunei Darussalam National Boat Race Association (PERKEBAR) in cooperation with the Youth and Sports Department will host a boat race championship on January 19, 2020 at the Serasa Water Sports Complex, Muara.
The championship is open to associations, clubs, teams, ministries, government departments, colleges, higher education institutions and local private companies.
Starting at 8am, the event will see 14 race events contested. In the Traditional Boats (PT) event, the categories are PT10 for 10 Rowers Open Local, PT20 for 20 Rowers Open Local, PT25 for 25 Rowers Open Local, PT20 for 20 Rowers Between Ministries, PT15 for 15 Rowers Private Companies Open Local, and PT30 for 30 Rowers Marathon Open Local.
Eight categories will be contested in the Fibreglass Boats (PF) event – PF10 for 10 Rowers Open Local, PF20 for 20 Rowers Open Local, PF10 for 10 Rowers Between Ministries, PF20 for 20 Rowers Between Ministries, PF10 for 10 Rowers Youth (U30) Open Local, PF15 Rowers Youth (U30) Open Local, PF15 for 15 Rowers Private Companies Open Local, and PF20 for 20 Rowers Private Companies Open Local.
A Championship Technical Committee and Team Manager Meeting will be held on January 11, 2020 at 9am at the Lecture Theatre Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas. Team managers’ attendance is mandatory.
According to the President of PERKEBAR Haji Haris bin Haji Ibrahim, the championship is an annual project of PERKEBAR with the objectives to maintain the tradition of boat racing at all levels and as a platform for boat racing enthusiasts to participate in.
Potential talents will be absorbed into the national team to represent the country at national, regional and international championships.
