Brunei Darussalam’s national football team slipped to a 3-0 defeat to Laos in the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila, the Philippines yesterday.
The Young Wasps were reduced to 10 men after goalkeeper Ishyra Asmin Jabidi was shown a straight red card in the 14th minute.
Laos took the lead four minutes later as team captain Soukaphone Vongchiengkham nodded home from close range following good work from a teammate.
Brunei forward Adi Said tested Laos’ goalkeeper Solasak Thilavong with a free-kick as they looked to end their scoring drought in the competition.
But, the Laotians doubled their lead in the 52nd minute after Bounphachan Bounkong fired home from close range after meeting a cross from a teammate.
Bounkong grabbed his second of the game in the 67th minute after nodding home into an empty net after Thanakhanty Aphixay had whipped in an excellent cross into the box.
Brunei will continue their campaign against Indonesia at the Binan Football Stadium in Binan tomorrow before concluding group stage play against Singapore at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila on December 5.
