Brunei Darussalam will host the 9th Borneo Cup Petanque Championship and 10th Borneo Interclub Petanque Championship from December 28-29 at the Petanque Court of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.
In preparation, the organising committee led by President of Brunei Darussalam Petanque Federation Haji Mohamad bin Panglima Asgar Dato Paduka Haji Abdullah held a meeting at the Multi-purpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex on Monday.
Sixty-six teams from Brunei, West Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak and Indonesia will compete in the 10th Borneo Interclub Petanque Championship vying for top honours. Winners will win BND1,500 with medals and trophy; first runner-up will receive BND1,000 with medals and trophy; while joint third place will each receive BND500 with medals and trophy. Teams finishing fifth to eighth place will receive BND100 and medal each.
Meanwhile, Sabah, Sarawak, Federal Territory of Labuan and host Brunei confirmed their participation in the 9th Borneo Cup Petanque Championship to be held on December 29.
Previous host Kalimantan is also expected to participate.
It was also revealed during the meeting that the Petanque Court at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex is undergoing renovation scheduled to be completed before December 25.
The championships are organised by the Brunei Darussalam Petanque Federation with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
