Indera SC have confirmed the signings of four foreign players ahead of their much-anticipated two-legged playoff tie against Yangon United in the playoff round of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup 2020 next month.
The Brunei-based outfit have acquired the services of former DPMM FC striker Rodrigo Tosi, Marcelo Carvalho De Souza, Prince Yamoah Boafo and Tekson Tubeng.
Tosi has forged a reputation as a lethal striker in the Singapore league for DPMM FC. He also donned the colours of Tampines Rovers following his return to the Singapore in 2015.
The Curitiba native, whose last known club was League of Ireland side Limerick, netted 58 times for DPMM FC in 97 appearances across two spells.
He was the league’s top scorer of the Brunei-based side that finished as league runners-up in 2014 when he plundered 24 goals.
Indera SC, as the only local club licensed under AFC Club License and Merit, have also confirmed the appointment of new first team head coach Haji Ameer Lani.
The two-time Super League champions are enhancing their preparations ahead of their foray in Asia with friendly matches against newly promoted Malaysia Super League outfit Sabah FA and Tangkur FC at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu.
General Manager of Indera SC said, “With gratitude and happiness, Indera SC has finally managed to acquire the AFC Cup 2020 license after all the hard work and sacrifices by the Indera SC management team and all those involved since CLS (Club Licensing System) was introduced back in October 2018.
“This is our first chronicle for Indera SC since its involvement in the football arena and that feat was a golden opportunity for the club to move forward to a higher level.
“Indera SC realised that our opponent Yangon United is not just any random team because they have been in the championship longer and are more experienced.
“That is why Indera SC need the total support from its fans and all football enthusiasts in Brunei Darussalam throughout their journey.”
Indera will host the first leg at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium on January 22 with the reverse leg at the Yangon United Sports Complex on January 29.
The winner of the playoff round between Indera SC and Yangon will earn a spot in Group F alongside Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City, Singapore’s Hougang United and Laos’ Lao Toyota.
