Brunei Darussalam’s sporting stars made an appearance in the ‘Goals for Education – Your Goals Matter’ for their Goals donation drive video campaign launched by Dynamik Technologies and Progresif recently.

Brunei’s first female Olympian and hurdler Maziah Mahusin, national bowler Faiz Dzuhairy, national netball player Nur Hafizah Haji Abdul Sidek and Malaysian Cup winner Rosanan Samak underlined the spirit of the cause by making a goal in their respective sports.

Nur Hafizah’s national teammate Dayangku Nur Khalisha Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman also made an appearance in the video.

Founder of Shooting Stars Brunei and Omni Sports International Ken Han, who aids in the development of basketball in the country, also had a role in the video.

The video, which featured a balance of competitors representing individual and team sports, saw Maziah running through hurdles while Faiz, who finished seventh in men’s bowling singles of the 30th Southeast Asian Games in Manila last December, bowled a strike.

Maziah, who competed in the London Olympics in 2012, said, “When COVID-19 was declared a worldwide threat, students had to carry out their learning at home using online tools. But not all students may have the same access to technology.”

This is where ‘Goals for Education’ comes in to raise funds to support online learning initiatives and assist students in need of technological devices nationwide.

Proceeds from the donation drive will be used to purchase tablets, desktops and laptops for students.

To contribute, individuals can participate in the 555 Challenge, where they can record a video of them scoring five goals as they wish, donate BND5 for the cause via Progresif Pay or BIBD Online, and upload the video clip on their Instagram account.

The pool community has also joined in the act with FJ Billiard cue sports athlete Haji Md Haikal Qarin bin Haji Haironi Hamizin taking part in the 555 Challenge.

Other notable individuals who participated in the challenge included dedicated athlete and swimmer Rynhardt Steyn.

The initiative has also sparked creativity among members of the public including striking a table tennis ball into an empty cup.

Online learning was implemented for all educational institutions in the nation by the Ministry of Education in April due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
