Gol Brasil Futsal Institute (GBFI) of Brunei Darussalam continued their efforts to produce capable futsal coaches following the commencement of the Gol Brasil Futsal Community Coaching Course for Level 1 at the Parkview Hotel in Kampong Jerudong on Friday.
The second intake of the two-day course, which ends next Friday, is divided into theory and practical sessions.
“We have taken our own initiative to collaborate with the international futsal body World Futsal Association (AMF) based in Paraguay and registered in Switzerland,” said GBFI instructor and Technical Director Haji Puspa bin Haji Mohammad.
“Our intention for this event is to share the passion that I have in futsal and for the sake of futsal development. I want to see our futsal in Brunei Darussalam to be taken care of,” he added.
Currently, there are 26 coaches who are able to organise grassroots and youth futsal leagues, while nine are working towards becoming a coach.
A number of participants in this year’s intake are internationally certified as holders of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) ‘B’ License, AFC ‘C’ License and FIFA Futsal Grassroots.
Haji Puspa also shared GBFI desire to contribute their efforts to the national governing body in selecting committed coaches for their future FIFA or AFC futsal coaching courses.
The technical director hopes that such efforts could help the national governing body to tap into their pool of coaches who are equipped with knowledge based on international practice.
“We have proven that our first intake course has already taken steps by winning many championships in Brunei and producing a local player as a foreign import for the Sarawak FA in the Malaysian Futsal League.”
He also plans to organise an international futsal seminar, which has been moved to next year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 24 countries have already shown interest.
Meanwhile, General Manager of Parkview Hotel Safawati binti Salim said, “We are looking forward for more futsal events, international futsal seminars and international futsal conferences in the future to be held at the Parkview Hotel.
“I am sure that there are a lot of youth in Brunei that are in need of a good coach who can lead them in the development of this sport.
“I believe after this course, the participants will be able to inspire youth to play futsal through enjoyment and social interaction that create passion for the sport, while also building character development, leadership and team skills.”
The theory session covered chapters such as futsal injuries, technical coaching, shooting, coaching process and futsal players selection criteria while the practical session of the course will cover defending, introduction of basic rotation and set play, among others.
Executive Director of GBFI Nurasfa Nabihan Hakeem bin Haji Puspa and Education Officer and Expert Literary Coach at the Ministry of Education Azimah binti Haji Mohamad were also present.
