Croatia players appealed to the fans to calm down



Croatia boss Ante Cacic has called the supporters who threw flares on to the pitch in their Euro 2016 draw with the Czech Republic "sports terrorists".

The match, which ended 2-2, was halted in the 86th minute when flares from the Croatia end rained down on the Saint-Etienne pitch.

Almost 80,000 passionate fans packed out the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey to create a carnival atmosphere that will be hard to match anywhere in the world.



Colombia and Peru saved the drama for right until the death at MetLife Stadium on Friday as the feeling continued to grow that the Copa America Centenario has firmly arrived in the United States.

This is, it must be said, the most attended edition of the tournament in its 100-year history, but with the home side in the semifinal, and Colombia now joining thanks to a penalty shootout victory, the sense that a major event is taking place on U.S. soil will start to take hold more than ever.

Clint Dempsey scored once and set up another as the United States booked its spot in the Copa America Centenario semifinals.



The United States sealed its spot in the semifinals of the Copa America Centenario following a 2-1 win over Ecuador on Thursday.

Clint Dempsey was the hero for the Copa hosts, scoring once and setting up Gyasi Zardes as the U.S. continued its dream run.

Eder scored a late goal as Italy beat Sweden 1-0 to seal a place in the Euro 2016 knockout stages.

Antonio Conte's side went into the game knowing that, while a win would guarantee their place in the knockout stages, a draw would also probably suffice, so it was little surprise to see the Italians sit back and try to reduce the space for lone Swedish threat Zlatan Ibrahimovic to operate in during a lacklustre first half.
