Uruguay's players' union has called on the Football Association to overturn Edinson Cavani's three-match ban.

The Manchester United striker was fined £100,000 and banned for an Instagram post containing a Spanish word that is offensive in some contexts.

Football clubs have been urged to be stronger on players who breach coronavirus protocols.

Players from Tottenham, Fulham, Crystal Palace, West Ham and Manchester City have been criticised by their clubs for breaking England's tier four restrictions over the new year holiday.

Fine first-time finishes from James Maddison and Youri Tielemans helped Leicester beat Newcastle and move to within a point of the top of the Premier League.

Maddison fired in Jamie Vardy's pull-back from just inside the penalty area to break Newcastle's resistance before Tielemans curled home from 20 yards after Marc Albrighton's pass.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice and created another goal as Juventus thrashed Udinese in Serie A.

Ronaldo opened the scoring with a trademark drive, after Aaron Ramsey's pass, before threading a through ball for Federico Chiesa to score.
