Rory McIlroy coasts to three-shot Dubai Desert Classic triumph

Rory McIlroy coasted to a three-shot victory at the Dubai Desert Classic and was never seriously challenged on the final day in the Emirates.

Four ahead overnight, the Northern Irishman, 25, did not need to repeat his first three days' brilliance as a two-under 70 left him on 22 under.

His nearest overnight challenger Morten Orum Madsen triple-bogeyed the first as Sweden's Alex Noren (65) took second.

Tiger Woods hits worst round of his pro career at Phoenix Open

Tiger Woods recorded the worst round of his professional career with an 11-over-par 82 in the second round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

The 39-year-old former world number one was playing in his first PGA Tour event of the season.

After also struggling on day one in Arizona, carding a 73, he was left in 132nd place in a field of 132 and certain to miss the cut.

Abu Dhabi Championship: Gary Stal beats Martin Kaymer to title

World number 357 Gary Stal claimed his first European Tour title following an astonishing collapse by Martin Kaymer at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship.

US Open champion Kaymer began six shots ahead and that soon extended to 10.

But after 47 holes without a dropped shot - a bogey then double and triple bogeys saw his lead gone by the 13th.

World number one Rory McIlroy recorded his first professional hole-in-one and is only two shots off the lead after day two of the Abu Dhabi Championship.

The 25-year-old's towering nine-iron at the 177-yard 15th pitched a foot from the flag before trickling in, and he birdied the last to finish on 11 under.

Leader Martin Kaymer did not drop a shot in adding a 67 to his opening 64.

Woods 'ready' ahead of Phoenix Open

Former world number one Tiger Woods says he is "ready to go" ahead of his 2015 season debut at the Phoenix Open.

The 39-year-old 14-time major winner played in only nine tournaments last year because of a back injury.

As well as confirming his place for the start of the Phoenix Open on 26 January, Woods announced that he would play in the following week's Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.
