Tiger Woods & Rory McIlroy in contention at Arnold Palmer Invitational

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy are both in contention after the opening round at the Arnold Palmer Invitational

Sweden's Henrik Stenson leads after an eight-under-par 64 with American Woods tied seventh on four under and Northern Ireland's McIlroy a shot further back.

England's Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood and Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell are also on three under.

Woods' round follows a second-place finish for the 14-time major winner at the Valspar Championship last week.

He made six birdies in his round in Florida, including a 71-foot putt on the seventh.

Woods has won eight times at Bay Hill but has not won any PGA Tour event since 2013, having had four back operations in three years.

"I think it's just playing tournament golf," Woods said

"I've been away from it for so long that when I first came back it was just a matter of getting my feel for tournament golf again.

"I think I have. I feel like I'm not really thinking as much around the golf course. I can just see and feel it and go and that's just because I've got my 'feels' back again."

McIlroy, who has not won since September 2016, had looked set to reach the clubhouse ahead of Woods but drove out of bounds on the 18th and made a double bogey.

Rose was four over par after his first six holes but hit seven birdies in the following 10 before ending with two pars.
