JAKARTA: China defeated Taiwan to win the first ever Arena of Valor gold medal on Sunday, as e-sports made a splashy debut as an exhibition event at the 2018 Asian Games.

CIKARANG, Indonesia: Son Heung-min said South Korea had "more belief" than Iran as they safely reached the Asian Games quarter-finals, taking him a step closer to the gold that would spare him a career-threatening stint in military service.

Son captained the defending champions to a 2-0 win in a physical game in Cikarang, near Jakarta, to set up another daunting clash with a highly rated Uzbekistan side.

JAKARTA: Olympic champion Joseph Schooling won Singapore's first gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games after retaining his men's 100m butterfly title on Wednesday night (Aug 22).

He clocked 51.04s to touch the wall first ahead of his closest competitors at the Gelora Bung Karno aquatic centre in Jakarta, setting a new Games record.

Over the the next four days, the last of 12,000 athletes and officials will check into six tower blocks in the centre of Jakarta.
